NFL Fantasy Championship Week: Let's Go Brandon!
NDL managing editor Dimas Diaz wraps up the 2021 fantasy football season
NFL Fantasy Championship Week: Let’s Go Brandon!
Joe Biden is a dick. That’s what roughly half the country thinks. The other half presumably thinks he is doing a good job. One half thinks mask and vaccine mandates are over the top. The other half thinks we need mandates because people won’t do what is best for themselves unless they are forced to. Some of the country thinks inflation is here but not for long and/or it is good for the economy because higher prices will lead to higher wages. Others think inflation is a result of almost two years of states and the fed giving away money and incentivizing staying home, eating takeout, watching Netflix and collecting a check for the sake of stopping the spread. For the sake of fantasy football, we refuse to take a position in the NDL. That is not why for we are here. Joe Biden is the commander in chief, for better or worse. Half of the country likes him, half don’t.
Even celebrities can’t help but weigh in. They have a bigger megaphone that us plebes. As a result, every 4 years a slew of celebrities will tweet “If _______ wins I am moving to another country!” And every 4 years, those same celebrities stay put in their mansions regardless of the outcome. In the case of Biden, nobody of note moved when he won, but they could have. It’s just that moving out of the country isn’t super easy or convenient. You’re having to make big real estate moves, job moves, people you see every day will now live a long plane ride away. So celebs may talk of moving but they don’t. They just keep tweeting love or hate for whomever is in the White House, depending on their politics.
Putting this in the context of a fantasy league, Joe Biden is like a fantasy commissioner. The commissioner is not elected, sure, but he or she still has tough (sometimes unpopular) decisions to make in times of strife as does the President, just on a much, much smaller scale. Instead of deciding what is best for 350 million people, a commissioner is deciding what is best for 10 or 12 people. In Biden’s case it is Covid, in a commissioner’s case it may be a disgruntled league manager not liking an action taken by another league manager. Either way, it comes down to the President or, in the case of fantasy, it comes down to the commissioner making a call. It may be popular, it may not be, but it’s a call that ultimately has to be made by one man or woman.
Why do we make this point? Because being a commissioner isn’t all penny whistles and moon pies. It is a joy 99% of the time and a pain in the royal behind that 1% when you have to piss off one or more of your friends. So… we at the NDL would like to take this opportunity to thank all commissioners out there for another kick ass season. Take a moment, mein Führer of fantasy football. Sit down, crack something cold, and look back at this season. It was a good one. Your friends/family/coworkers, whoever was in your league, played their asses off, shit talked, and hopefully had a great time doing so. And hey, if anyone didn’t like the job you did as commish, let them know that it is much easier to leave a fantasy league than it is to move out of the country.
Good luck to all who are battling for the gold this Championship weekend.
Until next season, NDL family. Cheers!
Oh yeah… one last thing…
Cheer Corner
Finally, to acknowledge the hard work these girls do, we highlight a cheerleader from a random NFL team. This week, apropos of the Chargers absolutely falling apart against the Texans (and making Chargers playoff chances that much harder to hope for), we would like to acknowledge a Lady Bolt. That’s right, this being our last wrap up of the 2021 season, it’s time for a Charger Cheerleader. Meet Madisyn…
Madisyn is in her 3rd season as a Charger girl. She is from Orange County, CA where she attended Fullerton college. When she is not shaking her boom boom for the Bolts she works as a dance instructor and choreographer. You may not believe this but our Madisyn is also a model. Let’s hope she models some winning ways for the Chargers before it’s too late! Go get ‘em, Madi!
